Eileen Kozloff: Press

"Solitary Rider is a showcase of top flight songwriting, strong performing and excellent production, and is among the best releases of the year in the folk world! .. Best encapsulated as "contemporary folk", the CD is a representation of true vocals and clean instrumental work on piano, mandolin and autoharp. The music is an eclectic mix of sounds including contemporary, old-time, jazzy, bluesy and a touch of R &B, and even a catchy, jingly tune for the fun of it...The lyrics are intelligent and well crafted throughout...The traffic jam in front of my CD player on listening nights makes I-95 look like the open range, but I will play this disc all the way through amid a collection fo the best folk music available. That is my ultimate compliment to any album."
Jim Heckman - Central Pennsylvania Traditions
"Jazz flavored, richly orchestrated. wonderfully sung, Eileen shares her very life force with us...her strength is clearly her voice. Eileen's voice is expressive, powerful, affecting and perfectly on pitch and simply jaw-droppingly evocative. That being said, she' no slouch on autoharp, paino, hog fiddle and mandolin. It is impossible to hear (Solitary Rider) without being penetrated by it, drawn into the son by the sheer power of it. This gal's got pipes, in other words!"
Stew Schneider - Autoharp Quarterly
"I listened to "Solitary Rider" on the way home yesterday then listened to my favorite cuts again (and some again!0. It is just simply superb! I think on top of the dynamite vocals, piano playing and instrumentation and mixing, the frosting on the cake is that it take s the autoharp into some non-charted territory in a way that is bound to surprise and please lots of people. There is not a weak cut on it!"
Kathy Hollandsworth - Mountain Fling Band
"Solitary Rider arrived today and I've enjoyed listening to it all afternoon. There's a nice variety of material on the album and it's all well presented, with good arrangements and production. I'm a sucker the for the autoharp when it's played well and that's what you've done here, with just the right amount of restraint and beautifully filling those little gaps between the vocal lines. Nicely done! i'll be happyt o include tracks on my program."
Bruce Cameron - Radio 2MCE-FM Bathurst, Australia
"I've just GOT to let you in on a wonderful new CD that's just come out_Eileen Kozloff has put out "Solitary Rider" a 19 c-cut, 62+ minute CD of her heart and soul that is just great. Autoharp figures prominently in many of the selections as does her piano work, and the BEST part is the power and confidence of her vocal work. It is really just lovely to behold. "
Mike Herr:Two Time International Autoharp Champion - Cyberplucker: On-line Review
"I finally made the escape and listened and listened to a whole lot of Eileen. What a treat...what a range! Such joy and the bittersweet! I'm so glad you put this together and pleased that you would share it with us. And your singing...damn you sound good! I shall continue to enjoy. You're also playing nice piano; I must sart practicing!
Renick Ross - Jazz pianist, composer and performer
"...you are such a gifted songwriter. Bravo! It's hard to pick my favorite track-they are all so good!"
Alex Usher - Performer, composer and author
"Kozloff's approach (to singing) is emotive, clear and controlled, reminiscent of the best of the revivialists, such as Joan Baez or Anne Hill"....She gives a heartfelt performance with ravishing, wide ranging vocals."
Old-Time Herald
"...My favorite part of this album (Solitary Rider) is just listening to Eileen's voice. Not only does Eileen convincingly render her self-penned , yet traditional-sounding folk and British-Isle type ballads, but she can also deliver a blues or jazz song with equal aplomb.
Solitary Rider's opening track, "Park This Heart of Mine," displays her ablitlity to write good, straight-ahead singer/songwriter material, while "Ocean Wide" and Rain and Snow" evoke balladry from " across the pond." The one minute and sixteen second "Strip Down" is reminiscent of the traditional "play party" songs and both the bluesy "Fool For You" and jazzy " All Because of You, show the abilities of her vocal and composing talents as well."
